What is a Mental Health Care Plan?

A mental health care plan is a plan for people who have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder.

It identifies what type of health care you need and details what you and your GP have agreed you are aiming to achieve. It also may refer you to local mental health services.

At SRMG our GP’s will work with you to manage your mental health condition.

What is depression?

While we all feel sad, moody or low from time to time, some people experience these feelings intensely, for long periods of time (weeks, months or even years) and sometimes without any apparent reason.

Depression is more than just a low mood – it’s a serious condition that affects your physical and mental health.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is more than just feeling stressed or worried.

While stress and anxious feelings are a common response to a situation where we feel under pressure, they usually pass once the stressful situation has passed, or ‘stressor’ is removed.

Anxiety is when these anxious feelings don’t go away, when they’re ongoing and happen without any particular reason or cause. It’s a serious condition that makes it hard to cope with daily life.

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health conditions in Australia.

The sooner people with anxiety get support, the more likely they are to recover.

What are Focussed Psycholgical Strategies?

Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) are specific mental health care treatments based on evidence-based psychological therapies. They can be an effective component  in treatment of a variety of mental health conditions, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Dr Helen Durell has completed further training in Mental Health to be able to provide FPS. Please speak to your regular GP about referrals to Helen which are usually done within a Mental Health Care Plan.
