Obstetrician Appointments

Your First OB Appointment

Your first OB appointment is a crucial step in beginning your prenatal care journey. Typically scheduled around 8-10 weeks of pregnancy, this visit focuses on confirming your pregnancy, assessing your overall health, and creating a care plan tailored to you and your baby.

What happens during the first Ob appointment:

  • Review of your medical and family history.
  • Physical exam, including blood pressure and weight checks.
  • Blood tests to confirm your pregnancy and check for essential health markers.
  • Initial ultrasound to estimate your due date and confirm fetal development.
  • Guidance on nutrition, lifestyle, and prenatal vitamins.

During this visit, your provider will schedule additional appointments, including the first-trimester screen, which typically occurs between 11 and 14 weeks to assess the risk of any pregnancy abnormality such as chromosomal abnormalities.

Your first OB appointment sets the foundation for a healthy pregnancy, offering early insights into your baby’s development and addressing any initial questions or concerns you may have.

Your 28 Week Ob Appointment

The 28-week Ob appointment is an important milestone in your pregnancy journey as you enter the third trimester. At this stage, our obstetricians focus on monitoring your baby’s growth, assessing your health, and preparing you for the final weeks of pregnancy.

What happens during the 28 week Ob appointment:

  • Measurement of your baby’s growth (fundal height) and fetal heart rate monitoring.
  • Glucose tolerance test to screen for gestational diabetes.
  • Routine blood tests to check for anemia and other key health markers.
  • Vaccinations, such as the whooping cough (Tdap) vaccine, if needed.
  • Discussion of any symptoms or concerns as your body prepares for labor and delivery.

The 28-week appointment ensures that you and your baby are healthy as you approach the final stages of pregnancy. It’s also an opportunity to discuss your birth plan and address any questions about delivery or postpartum care.

SRMG’s dedicated obstetricians are here to provide expert support at every stage of your journey, ensuring peace of mind as you prepare to welcome your baby.

Regular Ob Appointments

At Southern Regional Medical Group, regular OB appointments are essential for monitoring your baby’s development and ensuring your health throughout pregnancy. During these visits, our obstetricians track fetal growth, check your vital signs, and address any concerns or symptoms you may have.

Appointments are typically scheduled monthly in the early stages, bi-weekly in the third trimester, and weekly as your due date approaches. These visits provide ongoing care and guidance, ensuring you and your baby are on track for a healthy delivery.

Same-Day OB/GYN Appointments at SRMG

At Southern Regional Medical Group, we understand that unexpected concerns can arise during pregnancy. That’s why we offer same-day obstetric appointments, subject to availability, to address urgent issues such as reduced fetal movement, unusual pain, or other pregnancy-related concerns.

To secure a same-day appointment, we recommend calling us as early as possible at (08) 9845 9000. Our dedicated team will do their best to accommodate you and ensure you receive the care and reassurance you need when it matters most.

6-Week Postnatal Checks

At Southern Regional Medical Group, the 6-week postnatal check is an essential appointment for both you and your baby. Conducted by our experienced GP Obstetricians, this visit ensures you’re recovering well from pregnancy and childbirth while also addressing your baby’s first health milestones.

For You

This is an opportunity to discuss your physical recovery, any aches and pains, or changes in your body. It’s also a time to talk about emotional well-being, breastfeeding, contraception, and your return to work, exercise, or intimacy.

For Your Baby

Your baby will receive their first immunisations and a thorough top-to-toe medical examination. This includes checking their height, weight, hips, heart, and lungs to ensure they’re developing well.

When booking your 6-week check-up, please let our receptionists know so we can allow enough time for this important appointment.
