At Southern Regional Medical Group our team of Specialist Doctors and Allied Health Providers take referrals for:
- Antenatal Care & Obstetrics
- Anaesthetic Services
- Vasectomies
- Carpal Tunnel
- Mental Health (Focussed Psychological Strategies)
- Diabetes Education
In all instances our team are committed to providing shared care with you and will communicate with you regarding the results and outcomes of the care provided.
Antenatal Care & Obstetrics
Our Specialist GP Obstetricians at SRMG are happy to completely manage antenatal care or work with you in a shared care model.
We also work closely with midwives and in particular provide support to regional midwives in Katanning and Hopetoun.
All of our GP Obstetricians are credentialed at Albany Health Campus to provide Obstetric services, including:
- Supervision of labour and birth
- Caesarean section
- Water birth (Dr Elizabeth Tompkins only)
- D&C for miscarriage
- Hysteroscopy
- Marsupialisation of Bartholin’s cyst/abscess

Anaesthetic Services
At SRMG we have Specialist GP’s who provide Anaesthetic Services to Albany Health Campus, Katanning Hospital and the Albany Day Hospital.
We also provide Twilight (light) sedation for a number of other procedures, including Dental Service, Vasectomies and Carpal Tunnel procedures.

Carpal Tunnel Release
Dr David Ward performs Carpal Tunnel procedures under general anaesthetic at Albany Health Campus and under local anaesthetic at SRMG.
Twilight Sedation is also available for procedures done under local anaesthetic.
Vasectomies
Dr David Ward performs vasectomies both in rooms at SRMG under local anaesthetic, or, at Albany Health Campus under general anaesthetic.
Twilight Sedation is also available for procedures done under local anaesthetic.
Mental Health
Dr Helen Durell has done further training in Mental Health to be able to provide Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS).
FPS are specific mental healthcare treatments based on evidence-based psychological therapies, they include Psychoeducation, Motivational Interviewing Techniques and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy using a collaborative approach with patients.
They can be an effective component in treatment of a variety of mental health conditions, including:
- Depression
- Anxiety Disorders
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Referrals to Helen for FPS should be within the context of a Mental Health Treatment Plan or Eating Disorder Treatment Plan.
Diabetes Education
Janet Rathbone is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator practicing at SRMG, with specialised diabetes knowledge and skills in the delivery of diabetes care and diabetes self-management education.
Janet specialises in all facets of diabetes care, including; Pre-diabetes, Type 1, 2 and gestational diabetes. She is happy to provide services under a GP Management Plan or privately.
